What is Permaculture?

Permaculture, simply put, is a design framework guided by the Ethics of Earth Care, People Care, and Return of Surplus / Fair Share. If its not all three, its not Permaculture. But there's also a lot more to it. It was originally the concept of Permanent Agriculture, and creating resilient sustainable lifestyles. Now the movement has evolved to be a way of life for many, and applicable to basically any context where designing is required, not just the garden spaces. Examples could be designing your kitchen herb garden, your kitchen pantry, your kitchen chore roster, or what products you buy and in turn what companies your dollars support. We joke that Permaculture is 42! The answer to everything! (*reference to 'Hitch Hikers guide to the Galaxy').
Rather than me recreating the wheel, check out these articles an weblinks, that clearly explain what Permaculture is, and isn't.

What is Permaculture?   A podcast hosted by Robyn Rosenfeldt, editor of Pip Magazine, talking with Hanna Moloney of Good Life Permaculture

 "Permaculture is a philosophy of working with, rather than against nature;
of protracted and thoughtful observation rather than protracted and thoughtless labor; and of looking at plants and animals in all their functions, rather than treating any area as a single-product system.

Check out Bills course on the Tagari Publications website. It is the original Permaculture Design Course content taught by Bill Mollison, (and co taught with Geoff Lawton). The course is via another site called Udemy. When i purchased this course in May 2022, it was around $30. Right now (August 2024) it says the course is $169.99! I don't know what that is about, seems like a wild increase. Udemy do have sales and first time users discounts. Price gouging since pandemic is disgusting across all fronts of life and i would hate to think Tagari is leaning that direction too, like so many other Permaculture heads seem to be doing every they can to cash in right now. *Some of the language used in this course by Bill Mollison is problematic, and may be offensive.
